Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and the Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic ceremoniously opened the newly built Croatian Home - Matica in Subotica, which is the new seat of all Croats in Serbia, especially Slavonians, Srijemacians and Bunjevics. The project was fully financed by the Government of the Republic of Croatia with the amount of 1,9 million euros.

"I am glad to meet the Croatian community in Srijemska Mitrovica, the coadjutor bishop of Srijem, Msgr. Svalin and representatives of the parish of St. Dimitrija. Thank you for taking care of the preservation of Croatian identity and culture", said Prime Minister Plenković, adding that the Government of the Republic of Croatia provides strong support to Croats in Serbia.

The Croatian National Council, the newspaper publishing institution "Hrvatska rije" and the Institute for the Culture of Vojvodina Croats will operate in the premises of the Croatian House, all with the aim of preserving the identity of the Croatian people and developing the cultural and social life of the Croatian community in Serbia.

At the ceremonial academy celebrating the birthday of Bishop Ivan Antunović - the holiday of the Croatian community in the Republic of Serbia, which took place in the Great Hall of the Town Hall in Subotica, prizes and awards were given to students who achieved exceptional success in competitions.

The official opening and the academy were also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Anja Šimprag, Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek, Minister of Science and Education Radovan Fuchs, state secretary of the Central State Office for Croats outside the Republic of Croatia Zvonko Milas, president of the Committee for Croats outside the Republic of Croatia in the Croatian Parliament and delegate of the President of the Croatian Parliament Zdravka Bušić, and numerous other officials, including the deputy vukovarof the Prefect of Sko-Srijem Franjo Oreskovic.
